Public Transport Concessions Extended to Singapore Citizens Enrolled in Private Education Institutions and Home-schooled Students

Singapore, 7 December, 2015

In line with the recommendations made by the Fare Review Mechanism Committee, the public transport operators will be extending public transport concessions to Singapore Citizens studying full-time locally in secondary-level, Diploma or Degree courses offered by Private Education Institutions (PEIs) registered with the Council for Private Education (CPE), as well as home-schooled Singapore Citizens pursuing Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Examination (GCE) Normal, Ordinary or Advanced Level qualifications, or an International Baccalaureate qualification.

Benefits of the Transport Concessions

2. Similar to their counterparts in the Government-funded institutions, eligible Singapore Citizen students can now purchase Monthly Concession Passes pegged to their level of study. In addition, secondary-level students can enjoy concessionary trip fares if they choose not to purchase the Monthly Concession Passes.

Eligibility Criteria

3. The following groups of students pursuing full-time education in PEIs registered with CPE will now be eligible for public transport concessions:

a. Singapore Citizens (20 years old and below) pursuing GCE Normal, Ordinary or Advanced Level qualifications, or an International Baccalaureate qualification;

b. Singapore Citizens pursuing Diploma or Degree qualifications with a minimum course duration of 24 months; and

c. All Singapore Citizens (20 years old and below) taking special education courses in selected CPE-registered PEIs.

4. Home-schooled Singapore Citizens who are 20 years old and below, and who are pursuing GCE Normal, Ordinary or Advanced Level qualifications, or an International Baccalaureate qualification, will also be eligible for public transport concessions. When applying for the concessions, they will have to provide documentation that proves that they are pursuing one of the qualifications listed above.

Application

5. TransitLink will engage relevant CPE-registered PEIs on the details of the concessions. Students can submit their applications when they are informed to do so by their PEIs. Home-schooled students can contact TransitLink directly via TransitLink Hotline.
